An Order for Protection – it’s a powerful court order that can keep somebody away from you, essentially. And you can get an Order for Protection if you’re afraid of a significant other or if they physically assaulted you or abused you, or if you’re in fear of them doing the same. You apply for an Order for Protection, and it typically either gets approved or not approved that same day, and it can exclude the other person from your home, your workplace, daycare if you have children … And if you have children, it will allow for you to have custody of the children pending a hearing and limit the other parent’s time with the children if there is a safety concern.
